The Learning Community Public Charter School, Central Falls, RI (8/15 – Current)

Founding music teacher in an urban K-8 public charter school; developing music curricula and teaching general music to kindergarten through 5th grade; developing units of instruction in violin, guitar, and recorder; leading extra-curricular music courses for 6th through 8th grade, student performances at community meetings and events, and elementary and middle school choral groups.

Alice Deal Middle School, Washington, D.C. (8/11 – 6/15)

Taught music in an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (MYP); directed string orchestra, concert band, jazz band and percussion ensemble; developed district-wide curriculum and instructed 6th and 7th grade general music; led extracurricular music clubs; served as the Department Chair for the arts department; and participated in district-wide professional development and school-based initiatives.

Analyzed and transcribed folkloric recordings into music notation using Finale for publication in Masters of the Sabar: Wolof Griot Percussionists of Senegal, Temple University Press, 2007.

 

Performance

Performed nationally and internationally as part of contemporary, cultural and commercial ensembles.  Performances include Nuit d’Afrique Festival in Montreal, Canada; the Berklee Performance Center in Boston, MA; and the House of Blues in Boston, MA.
